“Trust is like the air we breathe. When it’s present, nobody really notices. But when it’s absent, everybody notices.” — Warren Buffet

A few thoughts and notes : Trust is the foundation to everything; our relationships both professional and personal. Not only, from the bank we trust with our money, the person we name guardian of our most prized possession, but most importantly the trust we have in ourselves. It is this trust — trusting that not only will we do the right thing in a tough spot, but make the right decision at a critical juncture for your business. Trust incorporates more than confidence. Confidence is about probability based on past specific experience, whereas trust is more universal. It is the true innate belief that we will be equipped and able to do the right thing at the right time. Hedging is much like multitasking for trust, where one doesn’t commit with always with one foot in and one foot out. Furthermore, trust, unlike confidence, leaves no room for second guessing or further thought. And it is when trust is not rock solid, rather when someone is simply merely confident in you, a great damage is done to conviction and clarity. Why the distinction, and does this matter? As with rigorous honesty, we must trust ourselves to do the right thing, because only then when combined with our competency can we live a full life, with clarity and conviction.
