Take a deep breath

This is easy and life changing. We are constantly impulsively reacting rather than thoughtfully responding. In many cases our reactions would be the same as our well thought out response. For most smart people, our intrinsic gut / intuition is right most of the time — the operative word being most. The problem isn’t just simply reacting – it’s not noticing or being aware of our reactions. Much like fear allow us to react and not be eaten by a bear, our intuition shortcuts some of our rational decision processes that sometimes automatically closing doors which would lead to greater opportunity. We need to be aware of our natural autopilot. By being present, taking a short pause, a breath, a space, when we are presented with a request or input we give ourselves time to think, and at the very least be aware of our reaction. The learned pause enables you to observe and notice your internal experience in real time. By practicing this in all moments, even with small and unstressfull decisions, you’ll hone your skills for when the stakes are higher and the heat is on. With practice one can minimize and and almost reduce being reactive to anything.
