The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. – Emerson

A few notes and thoughts. The quest for meaning is a key part of what makes us human. Purpose is built, from you, your values, your goals — it is rarely something that we just come across and find. It’s not like we are all moving through life just waiting until fate delivers our higher calling. Again, for those rare few, this can happen, where fate delivers the silver-bullet to one’s purpose, but more the normal, the search for this silver-bullet leads to frustration rather than fulfillment. In breaking down the commonality of what makes one fulfilled with purpose, it generally leads to active contribution and positive impact. In a very general sense it is working toward intrinsically valuable things, which can be everything from a new business to a child’s future. Not everything is obviously purposeful or meaningful, but what we have found is there is much contribution in many of the duties we perform day to day — sometimes we just don’t see it. Professionally rather than focusing on making our work meaningful, we need to focus on taking meaning from our work. Not only can we help you see it but we can identify those true intrinsic goals to put you on the right path — again many of use are already pointed in the right direction, but we simply aren’t receiving the feedback to be aware of it. With honesty and awareness we find our true meaning and purpose.
