You cannot overestimate the unimportance of practically everything. – McKeown
We are drug down, by commitments, things, baggage. Once, we sold our house while still looking for a new one. We put 90% of our stuff in boxes in a semi-trailer, moved into a small apartment, and thought — what in the world are we going to do without all our stuff. What we found is we were more than fine — frankly kinda shocked how we didn’t miss the stuff. Life is an accumulation, of things, ideas, experiences…. But keeping and managing these things take their toll. Sometimes the toll is financial, sometimes it is physical (you have to have the space), but in all cases they are mental. To have stuff is to keep track of stuff, and it contributes to overload. Again, we’re not proposing to rid oneselves of all attachments, but being mindful, of these attachments can not only save you money, but save your mind 🙂 We like to say we do not settle the mind, but simply cultivate the conditions for the mind to settle itself. Removing a large chunk of distractions goes a long way to this.
