When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. — Planck

A few notes and thoughts. With an improved awareness of ourselves, we have a greater understanding of how we feel and how we think. This allows us see our situation and decisions with more clarity. Economists look at these decisions in terms of the endowment effect, loss aversion, and status quo bias. We’ve all been there, where we are torn between making a sensible decision that sets us up well in the future versus something that provides immediate gratification. When we are more aware, with greater perspective this internal struggle is more clearly illuminated and quickly resolved towards the sensible decision. We make better choices, while spending less energy on (what would have been in hindsight) no-brainer decisions. One of Jung’s great tenant is that the more we know about ourselves the more choices we have. These are choices we lead, allowing us to properly weave our life, as opposed to being stuck, spending energy on again what should have been no-brainer decisions.
